Each year, the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills (PTH) Water Department is pleased to present its annual Consumer Confidence Report. The link to this report is on this page in the right column. The purpose of this report is to provide the water consumers of the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills with a greater understanding of the quality of our drinking water and the system that delivers the water from the source to the user.

Responsibilities
The water utility operates, controls and maintains the Township’s water supply and distribution system, wells, well fields and all equipment and accessories for the treatment, distribution, conservation and protection of the Township water supply and water services.
The division is also responsible for the reading of meters, as well as the maintenance and services of all fire hydrants in the Township.
Water Source
The Parsippany - Troy Hills Water System is a groundwater- based system. Groundwater (or well water) is stored below the surface of the earth in large gravel deposits or deep porous rocks called aquifers. Groundwater is purified naturally as it filters through layers of soil, clay, rock and sand. This process known as “percolation” takes years to complete. As a result, Parsippany’s drinking water requires less treatment than surface water.
Water Quality
To ensure that the water serving our community is of the highest quality, Parsippany’s Water Department monitors and tests for physical, chemical, and bacterial contaminants in the water. The Water Department is not content with simply providing water to all of its residents and businesses. The Water Department is constantly improving the system to enhance the water quality, reinforce the supply of water and upgrade the distribution of water throughout the system.

FAQs
Important Information to Know About Parsippany's Water System
Posted Tuesday, January 27, 2026
- Pipe age and material – Cast iron can be brittle and does not expand and contract easily with temperature changes.
- Pressure changes – The pressure inside a water main can change. One of the most commons ways is through temperature changes or thermal expansion. Pressure changes can also occur when fire hydrants are either opened or closed too quickly causing a water hammer.
- Ground settling – Over time, as the soil around a water main settles it can stress the pipe and break.
- Corrosive soils – Some soils are corrosive and can eat away at pipes over time. This is especially common in iron and other metal pipes. Eventually the corrosion causes the pipe to break.
- Frozen ground and pressure
- Thermal contraction
- Freeze-thaw cycles
- Colder water temperature
Stay ahead of the freeze, Parsippany! 🧤

- No watering shall be permitted on any Friday or on the 31st day of the month.
- Watering on the above dates shall be permitted during the hours from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM only.

- Watering on the above dates shall be permitted during the hours from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM only.
Exemptions for New Lawns
A temporary two-week reprieve from these restrictions is available for newly installed sod or seed. Property owners shall provide notice to the Water Superintendent by phone or email.
Violations and Enforcement
The water use limitations imposed shall be enforced by authorized Water Utility officials and/or the Police Department, both of whom are empowered to write summonses with mandatory court appearances and associated fines for violations of these water use limitations.
