Emergency Management

Mission

The Office of Emergency Management's mission is to protect the community from large-scale emergencies and disasters and to

  • Coordinate and respond to disasters
  • Coordinate recovery efforts following a disaster
  • Identify and mitigate potential threats
  • Prepare plans to deal with various disasters

CERT

CERT refers to the Community Emergency Response Team. The team is comprised of residents trained to be better prepared to deal with emergency situations for themselves and their families. CERT members can also give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT is part of a nationwide Citizens Corp program.

RACES

RACES refers to Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service. Its' mission is to operate and maintain Amateur, Public Safety, and other communication systems, to assist government officials in the protection of life and property during emergencies.

FAQs

What is the Office of Emergency Management and what do you do?

We are the local version of Homeland Security & FEMA - the federal folks who deal with disasters - hurricanes, blizzards, tornadoes, floods, terrorism etc. Each state, county and town has an OEM to help better protect the community.

What is the "Ready Parsippany" campaign?

Efforts to get community members better prepared to take care of themselves and their families in an emergency by having a plan, having emergency supplies and staying informed.

What is CERT?

Yes - OEM is staffed by part time coordinators and trained volunteers. Folks of all ages and abilities are invited to join our CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service.) free training.

Update: Parsippany OEM Continues to Monitor Local River Levels Due to Recent Rainfall

This will be the last situational update regarding the weekend rain event.  We currently have no active flooding to report at this time.  Vail Road into Montville has been reopened and all barricades have been cleared.  New Road in the area across from Partridge Run no longer has standing water on the side of the road and traffic patterns have returned to normal.
